Historic District Survey information for 10 Freeman St
Architectural Description: 10 Freeman is a 1 1/2 story, 3/4 cottage. The side gable roof includes a central brick corbelled chimney and shed roof dormer on front. Building faces east, not toward street. (The primary entrance was not visible from the street for survey.) A secondary entry with pane and panel door and wood storm door is located in the southwest elevation of the ell. Fenestration includes 2/2 wood DHS with storms and simple surrounds. A 1-story setback side ell extends northward.
Historical Narrative: As per Tom Boland (1994): This house is clearly shown on the 1836 map and the 1858 atlas of Provincetown. In 1880, it was owned by E. Ryder. By 1907 the ownership had changed to a M. Lopes. Freeman Street is one of Provincetown's earliest streets and was closely linked to the activity at Hilliard's Wharf.
