Historic District Survey information for 6 Cottage St
Architectural Description: 6 Cottage Street is a 1 1/2-story, 3-bay former sidehall cottage with side ell. The wood shingle-clad roof has partial cornice returns; ell roof has gabled roof and wall dormers; frieze below eaves; shed dormer on north slope with gable dormer above. Corner pilasters present. The main entry consists of a panel door with storm, flanked by sidelights and pilasters, capped by entablature. Brick stoop. Fenestration includes 2/2 DHS with entablature crowns and panel shutters; one arched 2/2 DHS in top of gable end; 2/2 false divided DHS in the shed dormer on the north roof slope; a former secondary entry with entablature and pilasters is now a full-height window. A 1-story addition at the south gable end contains a separate entry, 8/8 false divided DHS, flat roof and roof deck above. South facade also has a square bay. Formerly on brick piers, the foundation has been filled in and mostly stuccoed.
