Historic District Survey information for 6 Center St
Architectural Description: 6 Center Street is a 2-story, 4-bay gable front 3/4 house with side ell. The building is clad in clapboard on the primary facade, and wood shingles on secondary facades. The building has a fully pedimented gable front; frieze from gable front continues across ell; central brick ridge chimney on side ell. The main entry consists of a pane and panel door with tall entablature above; concrete stoop. A secondary entrance is located at the north end of the side ell on the primary facade. Trim similar to windows. Fenestration includes 6/6 DHS with storms and operable louver shutters. A 1-story, 3-bay cottage has been added to the northwest corner of the building, facing north. The addition has a front-gable roof. Bands of staggered wood shingles are located in the gable end and below windows. The central entry consists of multi-pane and panel door with storm; concrete stoop. Fenestration includes large horizontal 1/1 awning windows and 6-light windows on front, continuous with matching 1/1 awning windows on the east facade. Metal retractable awnings are located over front windows and door. Concrete block foundation under the addition.
Historical Narrative: A plaque on the house notes that this building was built c. 1840; this date roughly matches tax assessor and National Register nomination dates of construction.
