Historic District Survey information for 4 Mechanic St
Architectural Description: 4 Mechanic Street is a 1 1/2-story, 4-bay gable front 3/4 cottage with 1 1/2-story, 3-bay side ell. The front-gable roof has partial returns. The side gable ell has a gabled wall dormer with partial returns; frieze below eaves; brick chimney at roof ridge. A new gable dormer on north roof slope. The frieze and partial returns indicate the Greek Revival style influence, while the windows and entrance details denote Italianate style. The main entry is 2 arched panes over 2 panel door on an enclosed vestibule; flat roofed hood with pendanted brackets overhangs the door. Stoop is wood steps with wood balustrade. A secondary entrance is present on the side ell, mimicking the main entrance but without the enclosed vestibule. Fenestration includes wood 2/2 DHS with storms; an arched 2/2 window is in the top of the gable end; 1/1 awning window located to left of door and on south gable end facade. A 1st story deck and wooden exterior stair lead to a 2nd story deck on the rear.
