Historic District Survey information for 120 Bradford St
Architectural Description: This is a 2 1/2-story, 3-bay sidehall cottage with a set back side addition. The door surround has a large entablature with supporting pilasters and sidelights. The door is a replacement with a storm door installed. The door surround on the ell is much simpler and a smaller scale. Window trim is simple. Corner pilasters frame the primary facade. There are 6/6 DHS wood windows at the basement level and 2/1 wood DHS above. West facade contains same windows as front, except two 1/1 DHS replacement windows are located at rear of facade. Wood steps and deck access each entry. Side ell has 6/1 DHS wood windows with 2/1 wood storms. There is an optometrists office in this side ell. Brick steps lead to an entrance at the rear.
Historical Narrative: As per Tom Boland (1994): "All of the buildings in the area (116, 118, 119, 120, 123, and 127 Bradford Street) were constructed within a period of seventy years. The earliest structures are 118 and 119 Bradford... It is clear that the only structures existing on the 1836 map were 119 and 118. The 1858 atlas indicates that 116 and 127 were not yet built. This area is significant as an historical streetscape in that these buildings survive as an early 19th century residential "village" within the town. Largely unaltered and retaining their original settings, the streetscape serves as an excellent example of how many of Provincetown's streets once looked." The owners at verifiable times were: 1858 1880 1901 1907 Methodist pars. J. Chase Mrs. J MacDonald
