Clerks Have Final Call

Clerks Have Final Call
Cape Cod Times article dated May 5, 2004. Clerk's had been waiting for answers to numerous questions on how to implement the Goodridge decision, allowing same sex marriages to occur in Massachusetts and the State provided an informational session in Barnstable - finally - on May 4, 2004, just two weeks before the advent of same sex marriage on May 17, 2004. The primary question was one of residency and the State agreed that simply declaring an intention to reside in the state would suffice and left it up to the Clerk's to decide if they would require some proof of that intention or simply rely a couples signature on the oath existing on the marriage intention forms as the only requirement needed.
